Jamie + Zach at The Oregon District

One of my favorite parts about engagement sessions is that they rarely feel like a photoshoot. They feel like an evening spent getting to know two people before one of the biggest days of their lives. Jamie and Zach's session in Dayton's Oregon District was exactly that.

Before we ever picked up the camera, they grabbed dinner together at Thai 9, which just so happens to be one of my favorite restaurants in the Dayton area. It was the perfect way to kick off the evening—good food, a relaxed atmosphere, and the chance to slow down before we started exploring one of Dayton's most iconic neighborhoods.

The best part? This wasn't just about Jamie and Zach. Their daughter came along too, making the evening feel even more meaningful. I always love when engagement sessions include the people who are already part of the story. Marriage isn't just about the wedding day—it's about the family you're building together, and getting to capture a little bit of that is something I'll never take for granted.

As we wandered through the brick streets of the Oregon District, we kept things simple. We laughed, we did a few twirls, stopped wherever the light looked beautiful, and let the evening unfold naturally. Some of my favorite images are the ones that happen between the poses—the genuine smiles, the conversations, and the little moments that aren't forced.

One thing I always try to do during engagement sessions is use the time to really get to know my couples. We talked about what their wedding day will look like, the moments they're most excited for, and what they hope they'll remember twenty years from now. Those conversations help me understand who they are, and they allow me to photograph their wedding day in a way that feels personal instead of just following a timeline.

That's one of the reasons I love engagement sessions so much. They're less about taking photos and more about building trust. By the time the wedding day arrives, we're not strangers anymore—we're simply picking up where we left off.

Jamie and Zach, thank you both for such a fun evening. It was a privilege getting to spend time with the two of you (and your daughter), hear more about your story, and celebrate this exciting season of life together.

I genuinely can't wait to see you both again on your wedding day. If this engagement session is any indication, we're going to create some unforgettable memories together, and I already know there will be plenty of laughter, genuine moments, and a little bit of magic along the way.
