12 Years of Choosing Each Other | Breane + Algia’s Benham’s Grove Wedding in Centerville, Ohio
Some wedding days are about the beginning of a relationship.
Breane + Algia’s wedding was different.
This was about celebrating a love that had already been lived.
For 12 years, these two have experienced life together. They’ve laughed together, grown together, experienced loss together, built a life together and, most importantly, continued choosing one another through all of it.
So when their wedding day finally arrived at Benham’s Grove in Centerville, Ohio, there wasn’t much left to question.
The timing was right.
The people were right.
And after 12 years...
It was time to make it official.
A Wedding at Benham’s Grove in Centerville, Ohio
Benham’s Grove has quickly become one of those wedding spaces that just fits the direction Centerville is heading.
Located right around Centerville’s newly renovated Uptown district, the property gives couples this really cool mixture of historic charm, industrial touches, greenery and intimate garden-like spaces—all within the heart of the greater Dayton area.
It feels elegant without feeling overly formal.
You can create something classic.
You can create something modern.
You can lean into the greenery and gardens.
And from a photography perspective, there are plenty of opportunities to give a wedding gallery different looks without having to spend the entire day traveling between locations.
Add in the vendors who have become familiar with the property and know how to make weddings come together there, and I completely understand why more Dayton and Centerville brides are falling in love with Benham’s Grove.
Breane + Algia’s wedding fit this space perfectly.
12 Years Before “I Do”
One thing about being a wedding photographer is that I get a front-row seat to people's stories.
And I love that part of this job.
Because once you understand what it took for two people to arrive at their wedding day, everything you're photographing starts to mean a little more.
During their vows, Breane + Algia talked about what 12 years together actually means.
They've gotten to experience love beyond the honeymoon phase.
They've experienced life.
They've experienced change.
They've experienced the loss of a furry member of their family.
They've had the opportunity to see each other on the great days and probably a few of those days where somebody is getting patience tested.
And through all of it, they've had an honest opportunity to make the same decision over and over again:
I choose you.
That's what made this wedding feel different.
Their wedding wasn't the beginning of choosing one another.
It was a celebration of a choice they've already been making every single day.
There is something incredibly powerful about that.
A Wedding Party That Was FOR Their People
And listen...
Their wedding party came ready.
There's a difference between simply being in someone's wedding and genuinely being FOR the bride and groom.
This group was FOR Breane + Algia.
You could see it in the energy throughout the day.
You could hear it in the laughter.
You could feel it during the emotional moments.
Everyone genuinely seemed excited that after all these years, this day had finally arrived.
That's exactly the kind of energy you want surrounding you on your wedding day.
“Father of the Bride”
Before their wedding, we asked Breane + Algia a question that helps us understand how they want their wedding to feel:
If your wedding were a movie, what would it feel like?
Their answer?
Father of the Bride.
Warm.
Heartfelt.
Family-centered.
Elegant without feeling over the top.
A wedding where everyone genuinely enjoys being together.
Lots of laughter mixed with some happy tears.
That told me almost everything I needed to know.
Because our job wasn't to manufacture a wedding day that looked good for Instagram.
We needed to document what was already there.
The people.
The relationships.
The emotions.
The little interactions.
A few formal moments mixed with plenty of real ones.
And most importantly, two people having a really good time celebrating the life they've already created together.
The Photograph Is Bigger Than the Photograph
We also asked them another question:
If we could tell only ONE story from your wedding day, what would it be?
Breane's answer stuck with me.
She imagined the two of them sitting together at their sweetheart table, now officially husband and wife, looking out at the room.
People eating.
Drinking.
Talking.
Laughing.
Dancing.
Family.
Friends.
Everybody they love gathered in one place.
And the feeling she wanted to remember wasn't complicated.
Happiness.
Happy for themselves.
Happy for everyone who came.
Happy to finally be husband and wife.
Happy to be sitting in a room filled with people celebrating love.
Man...
That's the picture.
And I don't just mean literally taking a photograph of them sitting at the sweetheart table.
It's what that photograph represents.
Twelve years of life eventually leading to one room filled with the people who helped shape it.
That's why storytelling matters so much to us at Sheldon James Photography.
Give Me the Laughter AND the Happy Tears
This wedding had the balance I love.
We had our formal moments.
We created our portraits.
We gave direction when direction was needed.
But Breane + Algia also gave themselves permission to actually enjoy their wedding.
And that's where the magic lives.
I want the big smiles.
I want somebody laughing so hard the "perfect pose" falls apart.
I want the wedding party being themselves.
I want Mom getting emotional.
I want Dad looking around the room.
I want the little interactions happening at tables when nobody realizes we're watching.
I want the dance floor when everybody has officially stopped caring about the camera.
Give me all of it.
Because that's what a wedding actually feels like.
A Little Bit of Magic at Benham’s Grove
This was such a fitting wedding for Benham’s Grove.
Beautiful without trying too hard.
Elegant but comfortable.
Emotional but FUN.
And centered around the people who mattered most.
I can't wait to photograph more weddings here and continue exploring everything this Centerville wedding venue has to offer.
There are so many opportunities around the property and throughout Uptown Centerville to create something unique for every couple who chooses to celebrate here.
But Breane + Algia will always be a special one.
Twelve years.
A room full of their favorite people.
A whole lot of laughter.
A few happy tears.
And finally...
Husband + wife.
Congratulations, Breane + Algia.
Thank you for allowing us to tell a small piece of a story you two have already spent more than a decade writing.
Here's to continuing to choose each other every single day.
